US says will continue to provide assistance to a notorious Israeli military unit despite grave rights abuses

The US will continue to provide military assistance to a notorious Israeli army unit despite its grave human rights abuses in the West Bank.

The US State Department says the Netzah Yehuda battalion is eligible for military assistance. This after the unit committed gruesome murders in the Palestinian territories, including the killing of a 78-year-old Palestinian-American man. In 2022, Netzah Yehuda troops invaded Omar Assad's home, tied his hands, gagged him, and left him to die. The US claims Israel has "effectively remediated" the abuses. Washington says this decision is based on "new information" from Israel. Critics have slammed the lack of political will on the part of the US to hold Israel accountable for any crime. Washington has never sanctioned any Israeli military unit for atrocities in the West Bank or Gaza, where evidence of genocide has been brought to the International Court of Justice.
