The head of Germany’s navy resigns after his comments on Russia drew strong criticism from Ukraine. Kay-Achim Schönbach says the German defense minister has accepted his resignation. This comes after the Vice Admiral called Russia an important country, admitting that Vladimir Putin probably deserves respect. Kiev reacted by summoning Berlin's ambassador to protest the remarks. Germany has also enraged Ukraine by refusing to deliver arms to the country. Berlin says there’s no consensus among German politicians over the matter. Kiev and its Western allies accuse Moscow of preparing to invade Ukraine while the Kremlin denies the allegation. The US, Britain, and several Baltic states have agreed to provide Kiev with weapons. The first batch of the U-S military aid arrived in Ukraine on Saturday.
