Turkey on Monday agreed to allow Sweden to join NATO. Now a new report says Ankara gave the green light only after Washington promised Turkey an International Monetary Fund credit line.
That’s according to an article by American award-winning journalist Seymour Hersh. He says US President Joe Biden pledged to provide Turkey with an IMF aid worth up to 13 billion dollars. He cited sources who had direct knowledge of the transaction. Ankara had previously conditioned its approval on Sweden dropping its support for Kurdish militant groups that are considered terrorist outfits by Ankara. Russia has warned the NATO expansion raises the risk of the Ukraine conflict escalating further. It has warned that Russia would be forced to take counter-measures.
