Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and his Saudi counterpart Prince Faisal bin Farhan have called for expanding cooperation between the two countries.
At a meeting on the sideline of the UN General Assembly, Iran’s top diplomat said Tehran is ready to draw up and sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement with Riyadh. He called for forming a joint economic commission to facilitate trade. For his part, the Saudi foreign minister said his country is ready to cooperate with Iran in different sectors including transportation and navy. The two top diplomats expressed satisfaction with the reopening of embassies and the exchange of ambassadors in Tehran and Riyadh. Amir Abdollahian and Bin Farhan met for the first time in early April in Beijing after China brokered a détente that allowed Iran and Saudi Arabia to restore their normal diplomatic relations after some seven years.
