Netanyahu makes formal request for a pardon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who faces longstanding corruption allegations, has submitted a formal request for a pardon to President Isaac Herzog.

Hezong’s office announced the request in a statement, saying he will consider it after receiving all relevant opinions. The Israeli premier is facing three corruption cases that were filed in 2019. They include bribery, fraud, and breach of trust. Netanyahu is also wanted by The Hague-based International Criminal Court over charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Netanyahu’s request comes as US President Donald Trump is pushing Herzog to pardon the premier in the cases in question. Herzog received a letter from Trump earlier in November, urging him to consider the pardon.
